Nigari Silken Tofu

Nigari Silken TofuFebruary 4, 2013—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read, price & availability may have changed.

There are some things you can always count on when you shop at Trader Joe's. Things like top quality products, natural ingredients, and great value prices. Trader Joe's Nigari Silken Tofu lives up to all these attributes, with the added benefit of being one of the most versatile products we sell.  Tofu is known for its versatility, its mild taste that readily absorbs the flavors of other components in a recipe, and its plant-based protein. This particular Tofu features yet another benefit—it's shelf-stable.

There are a number of different "firming agents" used to make tofu out of soybeans. For this particular variety, we use nigari, a naturally occurring component of seawater (also known as magnesium chloride), to "firm" the tofu. Trader Joe's Nigari Silken Tofu is smooth, soft, mildly sweet, and easy to use for all kinds of preparations. And because it doesn’t require refrigeration until after it's been opened, you can keep it in the pantry for when the inevitable tofu craving strikes.  Make a stir-fry, some soup, a tofu "burger" or whatever else satisfies your tofu cravings.

We're selling each 11.5 ounce box of Nigari Silken Tofu for $1.49, every day. You'll find it on our grocery shelves.
