For years, we’ve been trying to develop a non-dairy whipped topping that brings as much joy to our taste buds as we get from actual whipped cream. This is not an easy task. There have been many that tasted decent, but each of them was loaded with artificial flavors and preservatives, and each of them was made with partially hydrogenated oils. Others were made with all natural ingredients, yet left quite a bit lacking in the taste department. Chalky, beany and blah are all words that were used over the years to describe some of the failed attempts. None of these were good enough.
We were looking for “excellent,” with a slant in the direction of “awesome.” Found it.
Trader Joe’s House Whip is the majority favorite when it comes to non-dairy whipped toppings. It’s made just for us using soy, real vanilla extract and organic sweeteners. What did we leave out? The list is long, and includes high fructose corn syrup, gluten and polysorbate 60 – these are all ingredients in some of the other non-dairy whipped toppings we’d seen over the years, by the way. We also left out the high price. All natural products that are similar to ours can cost as much as $3.99; we’re selling each 10 ounce tub of House Whip for $1.99. Add a dollop to berries, ice cream, pie, sweet crepes... anywhere you’d use whipped cream, now there’s a non-dairy alternative that’s as natural as it is delicious. You’ll find it in our freezers.
