Ready in 15 minutes!
Brown rice is one of our favorite things to eat. It's versatile, loaded with nutty flavor and quite nutritious. Brown rice is one of our least favorite things to cook. It takes forever (okay, more like 45 minutes to an hour, but that can seem like forever) and quite often leaves behind a sticky mess. How to reconcile our love for brown rice with our disdain for its lengthy cooking process? Trader Joe's Quick-Cook Organic Brown Basmati Rice, of course.
Trader Joe's Quick Cook Organic Brown Basmati Rice is quick and easy to make, and the result is as fragrant, nutty and delicious as the long cooking variety. How can this be? It's the result of a super-secret process that we will now reveal for the first time… anywhere. Well, anywhere other than the back of the bag, that is. The raw rice is scratched, or scarified, which means the grains of rice are rubbed, or bumped, against each other, opening pathways for water to penetrate the grains while cooking. Then the rice is briefly steamed, which makes it bendable, important for the next step, when the rice is rolled. The rolling allows for faster water absorption when cooking. These three simple processes cut the cooking time by about 65% without sacrificing any of the brown rice flavor and texture you love—that means you can have freshly made brown rice in about 15 minutes—really!
To recap: scratched, bumped, steamed and rolled. The result: convenient, delicious and kind of cool, too. All at a great price. We're selling each two pound bag of Quick-Cook Organic Brown Basmati Rice for $3.99, every day.
