We introduced Trader Joe’s Gyro Slices last spring with the following semantic disclaimer, and we think it’s worthy of repetition: you don’t need a gyroscope to enjoy Trader Joe’s Gyro Slices, but you should practice proper pronunciation to be able to differentiate between the two. Though they share the same root (the modern Greek guros, which translates to “turning”), in everyday English usage, their pronunciations are pointedly dissimilar. Gyroscope uses the same soft “g” as in gymnasium or gypsum. Gyro’s “g” employs a more traditional Greek articulation, more like a “y.” Gyro rhymes with hero, which is what you’ll be when you bring these Slices home.
Trader Joe’s Gyro Slices are crafted from primarily beef and a bit of lamb, with a savory blend of seasonings like lemon, garlic, and oregano. They’re fully cooked and sliced, ready to eat (or heat, then eat). Make a restaurant-style gyro sandwich with ease. We like to heat the Slices briefly in a skillet to bring out their best flavor. Grab a pita, some of our famous Tzatziki Sauce, and any other adornments you desire – here’s where you can really throw tradition out the window if you like. Opa! Gyros at the ready, in your home, in minutes.
We’re selling Gyro Slices in an eight ounce package of about nine slices for $3.99 every day. You’ll find them in our refrigerated case, next to the gyroscopes (just kidding).
