Trader Joe’s Organic Watercress is a nutrient-dense green that’s greenhouse grown for us in California. Our supplier has been growing Organic Watercress for more than 20 years. In that time, they’ve figured out a way to grow it using 90% less water than field grown varieties, producing up to four times as much product per acre as they could in an open field. They’ve also figured out how to package it, with its roots still intact, so that it retains more moisture, which results in fresher, more tender leaves, and big, bold peppery flavors. So when you see the bag in our produce case, and you notice the roots (and dirt) attached, don’t be alarmed. Instead, be excited! You’re about to taste some delish greens.
So what do you do with Organic Watercress? Add it to salads, or use it as a lettuce alternative on sandwiches – its peppery profile works especially well with roast beef, but it’s good with just about any sandwich meat or cheese. Blend it into a smoothie – it’s an excellent source of vitamins A & C. Add it to omelets, scrambled eggs, or frittatas. Or use it as a garnish you’ll actually want to eat. We’re selling each package of Organic Watercress for $1.99*, a price you’ll actually want to pay. Look for it in our refrigerated produce case.
*Ounces, price and availability may vary by region. Currently Trader Joe's Organic Living Watercress is $1.99 in our West Coast and Texas stores, and $2.29 in our East Coast, Midwest and South East stores.
