Organic Tricolor Quinoa

Organic Tricolor Quinoa

March 20, 2017—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Trader Joe’s Organic Tricolor Quinoa is a blend of red, black, and golden quinoa, grown in the Bolivian Andes, in the mineral-rich soils surrounding the Uyuni Salt Flats, at an elevation of 13,000 feet. After harvest, the quinoa is gently rubbed to remove the bitter saponin coating. It’s then washed, rinsed, dried, and cleaned again – all of this care before packing means you don’t have to take the time to rinse it at home prior to cooking. Winning! The multiple colors lend the grains a cool look, but don’t much change the flavor. You can expect the characteristic mild, nutty flavor in every bite. Serve it warm as a side dish, or try it cold in salads to add texture and boost protein. Speaking of protein, there are six grams of protein in every serving. And that protein is complete, meaning it contains proportional amounts of all nine essential amino acids. Great for vegans.

Because you’re buying it from Trader Joe’s, you can expect a phenomenal price. We’re selling each one-pound, resealable bag of Organic Tricolor Quinoa for $3.99, every day. You’ll find it in our grocery aisle.
