Organic Tahini

Organic Tahini

March 20, 2017—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

As a verb, the Arabic word from which we get tahini means, “to grind.” How appropriate, then, that Trader Joe’s Organic Tahini is the result of roasted sesame seeds that have been gently ground in traditional stone mills. It’s worth pointing out that that’s all they’re made with – the only ingredient in the jar is hulled, ground organic sesame seeds. Think peanuts ground into peanut butter, but with sesame seeds (and made in a nut-free facility).

Trader Joe’s Organic Tahini comes to us from a supplier in Thessaloniki, Greece, using organic sesame seeds from Ethiopia. Tahini is a vital ingredient in the making of hummus – this may be its most common use in American cooking. It also makes an excellent dip for veggies, and a dreamy dressing for salads – you can blend it with some lemon juice to add some tang to the roasty flavors of the Tahini. It’s a tasty way to add even more protein to your Greek yogurt – two tablespoons of Organic Tahini contribute six grams of protein! Spread it on toast or a bagel, with a little honey, for a nice change of pace from butter or preserves. Use it where you’d otherwise use nut butter to change up the flavors of your favorites.

We’re selling kosher-certified Organic Tahini in a 10.6 ounce jar for $3.49, every day. Those in the know know this is a great value! You’ll find it in our grocery aisle.
