Trader Joe’s Steak & Stout Pies are individually-sized pies made with all butter pastry that’s filled with hearty chunks of tender beef in a stout-based gravy seasoned with traditional herbs and spices. The beef is joined by generous amounts of gold potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, and mushrooms. Like we said, this is comfort food at its most comforting – surely, the Danes would classify these as Hygge. The Pies are fully cooked and frozen; they bake up to a golden brown, and the flavors are warm, savory, and satisfying. Add a simple green salad and dinner is served. (Note: while the box shows instructions for both conventional and microwave cooking options, we definitely prefer the conventional oven method, especially if you’re dreaming of that golden brown crust.)

Ingredients: Pie Dough (unbleached enriched wheat flour [wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, ascrobic acid {vitamin C as dough conditioner}, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid, enzymes], butter, water, nonfat dry milk, sea salt, white distilled vinegar), Pie Filling (beef steak [steak, water, cornstarch, salt, black pepper], potatoes), Stout Gravy (water, stout, carrots, tomato paste, celery, onion, cornstarch, butter, beef base [roasted beef, beef stock concentrate, salt, yeast extract, maltodextrin, sunflower oil, sugar, dried onion, dried garlic, whey powder, caramel color, celery seed, black pepper], garlic, mushroom, salt, sugar, xanthan gum, rosemary, pepper, thyme), Egg Wash (egg, pepper).
