Tusk ‘N Red
February 2, 2015—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
This wine was born of our desire to emulate the big, bold Italian red wines often known as Super Tuscans. The twist? Tusk 'N Red hails not from central Italy, but from Mendocino County on California's northern coast. The Super Tuscans are so-called because they don't fit into any of the DOC or DOCG designations laid out by the Italian winemaking authorities. They're made by winemakers who want to use a little more of this or a little a less of that, and therefore can't be called by any of the "signature" names of the regions. Tusk 'N Red is a silly play on words, for sure, but the wine is seriously good.
Tusk 'N Red uses the same varietals found in the Italian Super Tuscans - Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), and Sangiovese (10%). They're blended to create a smooth and dry, fruit-forward wine with aromas and flavors of black cherry, creamy vanilla, toast, and tobacco, with light spice notes and a long, fruity (not sweet) finish. It's a pretty big wine, with a pretty small price. We're selling each 750ml bottle of Tusk 'N Red for $6.99, a super value, every day.
* Tusk’n Red is currently available in Trader Joe's stores where wine is sold. It is $7.99 plus tax unless otherwise noted here: CA: $6.99. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff.
