Kale Sprouts

Kale Sprouts

February 2, 2015—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Trader Joe's Kale Sprouts are new, a hybrid of Brussels sprouts and Kale. Seed specialists spent 15 years cross-breeding Russian Red Kale and Brussels sprouts, knowing the two would, eventually, become something magical. They did.

Trader Joe's Kale Sprouts look like little baby kale, with a small Brussels sprout coming out of the middle. Their leaves are mostly green, with purple leaves accenting the sprouts. They actually grow on what looks like a little Brussels sprout stalk, but sprout these little Kale Sprout hybrids instead of the traditional sprouts. They taste like the best of both of their parent plants - mild, a little nutty, and delightfully sweet. They've also inherited their ancestral nutrients, with five grams of fiber and four grams of protein per serving, plus 90% of the Daily Value of vitamin C in every one-cup serving.

We love these little Sprouts quickly sautéed with a little garlic, a pinch of salt, and some olive oil.  You can also cook them in the microwave or conventional oven - we've included several prep suggestions on the bag.  We're selling each eight ounce bag of Trader Joe's Kale Sprouts for $3.29, a delicious value, every day.

*Ounces, price and availability may vary by region. Currently Trader Joe's Kale Sprouts are $3.29 in our West Coast and Texas stores and $3.49 in our East Coast, Midwest and Southeast stores.
