Pesto and Quinoa

Pesto and Quinoa

February 2, 2015—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

What's that? You were unaware that these two seemingly disparate foods were destined to be together? Does it help to know that you're not alone? We'll admit it; until we tasted this unique spread/sauce/dip, we, too, were in the dark.  But no more! Trader Joe's Pesto and Quinoa defies categorization (thus our reluctance to add anything descriptive after Quinoa on the label), but begs repeated tasting.

For years now, we've been extolling the virtues of quinoa - the ancient grain known as the "mother of all grains" by the Incas, a complete protein source - and we've been selling boatloads of the stuff. But it was a supplier, not our own imaginations, that led to the introduction of Pesto and Quinoa. We were intrigued, but skeptical. However, once we tasted it, we were hooked. It's just what it claims to be; a savory blend of slightly crunchy, nutty quinoa, blended with a traditional pesto made with basil, Italian cheeses (in this case, Grana Padano & Pecorino), garlic, and olive oil. It's a delicious spread on crackers or baguette slices; delicious on Organic Chicken Breasts, or Pacific Cod Fillets; and strangely sublime tossed with any kind of pasta (mix it with our Organic Brown Rice & Quinoa Spaghetti for a double dose of quinoa).

We're selling Pesto and Quinoa, which you'll find only at your neighborhood Trader Joe's, in a 10 ounce jar for $2.49. You'll find it in our grocery aisle.
