Gone are the days of gluten free baked goods tasting like cardboard. As more and more people have embraced gluten free eating, at Trader Joe's we've worked hard to find suppliers who are really good at the gluten free thing, vendors who make foods we love, regardless of the gluten free designation. This hasn't always been easy, but in the last few years, the taste, texture, and overall excellence of gluten free foods has improved. And boy, does that make us happy.
Imagine our dismay, then, when we did a routine quality check of our Gluten Free Brownie Mix. It was boring, dull, not very brownie-like. It just didn't satisfy. We knew, given the current state of gluten free goods, we could do better. We tasted and tasted and tasted. We tested samples from specialty shops, mixes that sell for more than $10 a box. They were just okay. And then we tasted what would eventually become Trader Joe's Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix, and we fell in love. Thick and rich, a little chewy, and wonderfully chocoately, these Brownies are the real deal. So they don't have gluten - you'll never miss it! (They're made with brown rice flour, by the way.)
Make up a batch of Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix for dessert on Wednesday, or bring them to that party next weekend - yes, they're good enough to share with friends.
