Six Year Aged Cheddar Cheese
December 1, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
Last year, we partnered with a renowned Vermont cheese cooperative to present a Cheddar that had been aged for five years. It was a revelation. Mature in all the best possible ways, we knew this cheese could improve even more if aged under the right conditions. When we went back to the cheesemaker with our thoughts, we discovered that they'd already had the same thought, and had set aside considerable quantities for more extensive aging. Luckily for us, we got first crack at it, and luckily for you, we were able to bring it in just in time for the holidays.
Trader Joe's Six Year Aged Cheddar Cheese is handmade in Vermont, using raw milk from cows raised on small, family farms and not treated with rBST. As the cheese ages, it develops a rich, deep flavor that's more complex than you'll find in younger cheeses, yet it maintains the creamy finish you expect from a quality Cheddar. You can expect a sharp "bite", some crystallization, and a slightly crumbly texture. Because it's from Trader Joe's, you can also expect a terrific price - we're selling it for $9.99 a pound, where other purveyors of fine cheese would typically offer this type of cheese for significantly more.
Make our Six Year Aged Cheddar Cheese the star of a cheese platter - combined with any number of our holiday cheese offerings, you'll have an impressive presentation without spending your entire holiday budget. Serve with our Multigrain Pita Bite Crackers for stellar results, every time.
