Rosa dell' Olmo Barbera d'Asti

Rosa dell' Olmo Barbera d'Asti

October 6, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Northwestern Italy's Piedmont region is home to the town of Asti, where some of Italy's best Barbera grapes are grown in abundance. Barbera grows throughout the country, but Asti is known for the quality of its Barbera. At Trader Joe's, we’re selling Rosa dell'Olmo Barbera d'Asti, a big, bold wine made for us by one of the most respected wineries in Piedmont. They only make wines that carry a DOC or DOCG designation, meaning that the Italian government has certified that their wines were made with grapes grown in the region, and the wines themselves were crafted and bottled in the region. On each bottle, an official seal is affixed to the capsule that covers the cork, a way to prove its authenticity and prevent tampering.

And the wine? It's good. It's a fruit forward wine made with 100% Barbera grapes, smooth and dry, with intense cherry notes, hints of blueberry and vanilla, and an enjoyably dry-yet-silky finish. Making a big, hearty meal? This is your wine. Roasts, lasagna, Stroganoff, stews… Rosa dell'Olmo Barbera d'Asti is your big Italian friend, at the ready to complete the meal. Wines of this caliber are usually found for $10 and up; we're selling this one in a 750ml bottle for $5.99! That's a WOW of a price if we've ever seen one.

* Rosa dell' Olmo Barbera d'Asti is currently available in Trader Joe's stores where wine is sold. It is $5.99 plus tax unless otherwise noted here: NM, KY, NH, GA, FL: $6.99; OH: $7.99. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
