Thai Lime & Chili Almonds
October 6, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
Unique here in the States, the lime-chili combination is quite typical of Thai cuisine. Our product development gurus travel to Thailand frequently, in search of new and interesting products, giving them the opportunity to taste a variety of foods featuring this piquant flavor profile. One of the most interesting discoveries they’ve made over the course of their travel is that in order to achieve that specific Thai flavor, the most important ingredient is Thai lime. Other citrus can come close, but it’ll only taste like the lime-chili profile you get in Thailand if you use the Thai lime. Lesson learned.
Trader Joe’s Thai Lime & Chili Almonds come to us from Thailand. They’re the real deal, and they make great use of this classic Thai flavor profile. The mellow, earthy, nutty flavor of the almonds is the perfect match for the tangy spice of the piquant lime & chili blend. Enjoy them as a snack—though beware, as the spice level inches up with each subsequent handful—or chop them and toss them into salads or into Asian-inspired rice or noodle dishes. We’re selling each 12 ounce bag of Trader Joe’s Thai Lime & Chili Almonds for $5.99, a price for spice that’s nice. You’ll find them in our nuts and dried fruit section.
