Pumpkin Croutons

Pumpkin Cornbread Croutons

October 6, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

This is one of those only-at-Trader-Joe's stories we just love. A few months back, we were developing a salad kit (the salad became the Harvest Blend Salad), and we fell in love with the croutons in the kit. They were perfect with the salad, and yet, we knew they could be perfect in so many other dishes that we set ourselves on a quest to give them a chance to shine not only as part of that salad kit, but on their own as well. And so, Trader Joe's Pumpkin Croutons were born.

Pumpkin Croutons begin as simple bread dough, to which loads of pumpkin are added ("loads" here being a technical term meaning "vast amounts"). Just enough seasonal spice is added so that there's a suggestion of pumpkin pie in every bite. The bread is baked in hearth ovens, then baked again to achieve captivating crouton crunch. Ideal in salads (as we first discovered), they can also be incorporated into bread puddings, served atop soup, or dipped into Pumpkin Butter or caramel sauce. And if a new twist on Thanksgiving stuffing is on your list for 2014, try these instead of (or combined with) your usual bread.

We’re selling each eight ounce package of Pumpkin Croutons for $1.99. You’ll find them only at your neighborhood Trader Joe’s.
