October 6, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
Joining the most-of-the-work's-already-been-done iterations of butternut squash and sweet potatoes in our produce section this fall is Trader Joe's Cut Sugar Pumpkin, a staggeringly delicious pumpkin variety that you might not ever choose to cook… until now. Why? We'll tell you why. Peeling a pumpkin is challenging work. Mind you, this naturally sweet pumpkin variety is well worth the effort, but who has the time to undertake this kind of food prep on a regular basis? Not us. Our supplier, however, has the time, the tools, and the fortitude to make it happen.
So for Pumpkin Season 2014 we're offering Sugar Pumpkin grown in California's Central Valley that's cut, peeled, cleaned, cubed, and ready for some cookin'. It comes in a one and a half pound bag, enough to present on your dinner table for a weeknight supper - use your slow cooker to make a Whole Roasting Chicken, then roast the Sugar Pumpkin in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes when you get home. That's a sweet meal, with minimal impact. A pound and a half is also enough to make a pumpkin pie, and this sweet variety is an excellent pie pumpkin.
We're selling each 1.5 pound bag of Cut Sugar Pumpkin for $4.49*. You'll find it in our refrigerated produce case.
*Ounces, price and availability may vary by region. Currently Trader Joe's Cut Sugar Pumpkin is $4.49 in our West Coast and Texas stores and $4.99 in our East Coast, Midwest and Southeast stores.
