Pumpkin Cream Cheese
October 6, 2014—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
Back for its Pumpkin Season limited-run is Trader Joe's Pumpkin Cream Cheese. After a fanfare-filled debut in 2010 (when we had some difficulty keeping up with demand), this has become one of our seasonal staples. In this apparently-annual Pumpkin-Palooza edition of the Fearless Flyer, Pumpkin Cream Cheese is a stalwart standout that you won’t want to miss.
Inside the tub emblazoned with a "wait, isn't that a bagel?" label is a blend of real pumpkin and an especially rich, tantalizingly tangy cream cheese, with a bit of brown sugar & cinnamon added to ramp up the "are you sure this isn't pumpkin pie?" quotient. It's emphatically creamy, so it's easily spreadable, yet it still retains the rich, dense texture of good cream cheese. And like any cream cheese worthy of the mantle "schmear", our Pumpkin Cream Cheese is excellent on bagels, English muffins, or toast. It also makes an excellent dip for cookies (it may be gilding the pumpkin to suggest it, but why not try it with Pumpkin Biscotti or Pumpkin Joe Joe's, a natural partner for pumpkin bread and an inspired alternative to peanut butter on a sandwich or in celery ribs.
One thing we never gild is price. We're selling each eight ounce tub of Pumpkin Cream Cheese for $2.99, throughout the season.
