Roasted Unsalted Sunflower Seeds

Roasted Unsalted Sunflower SeedsApril 28th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is a plant species valued for both its beauty as a flower, and for the nutritional value of its fruit, Sunflower Seeds.  These seeds (sometimes known as kernels when they've been removed from their shell) are among the richest sources of vitamin E, and are also rich in nutrients like niacin, iron, and zinc.  In addition, they're rich in protein and unsaturated fats, making them incredibly desirable from a nutrition perspective.  But wait, there's more!  (we could totally do an infomercial, don't you think?)  And that "more" is that these little kernels are delicious!

Trader Joe's Roasted Unsalted Sunflower Seeds hail from the Red River Valley in North Dakota (Do you remember the Red River Valley?), where sunflowers grow prolifically, producing plentiful seeds for our nourishment and enjoyment.  They are Premium grade kernels, larger and more consistently shaped than the more common "confection grade" kernels.  They're lightly roasted and unsalted, so the seeds' true nutty flavor really shines.  If you can't eat nuts, these are a terrific substitute for all kinds of uses.  We like them sprinkled atop salads, baked into quick breads, muffins and cookies, and even mixed into pancake batter.  Most of all, though, we like them by the handful.

We also like our price of $1.99 for each 16 ounce bag.  You'll find them in our nuts & dried fruit section.
