Fresh Fennel

Fresh FennelMarch 17th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

The word "fennel" can be traced back to a Latin word meaning "hay".  The vegetable "fennel" bears no resemblance to hay, yet may make you exclaim "Hey, that's delicious!" when you taste it.  (Too much?  Hey, give us credit for trying.)

Fennel, a popular ingredient in Mediterranean cuisines dating back to antiquity, can be eaten raw, sautéed or baked and served as a side dish, or added to recipes. It's an incredibly aromatic vegetable, and its licorice-like flavors will imbue your dishes - this flavor mellows as the Fennel cooks, so the longer you cook it, the softer it will become.  For pizza, try it sliced and sautéed in our Spanish Organic Extra Virgin Garlic Flavored Olive Oil, then partnered with our Sausage-less Italian Sausage atop a base of Pizza Sauce and Shredded Mozzarella.  "Hey, that's delicious!"

Trader Joe's Fresh Fennel comes in 20 ounce packages for $1.99* each.  You'll find it in our fresh produce section.

*Ounces, price and availability may vary by region. Currently Trader Joe's Fresh Fennel is $2.49 in our East Coast, Midwest and Southeast stores and $1.99 in our West Coast and Texas stores.
