Sai Tung Green Curry & Red Gaba Rice

February 3rd—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Trader Joe's Sai Tung Green Curry & Red Gaba Rice is a meat-free, vegan entrée that's packed with flavor and intriguing ingredients. It's a traditional Thai green curry made with coconut cream and green curry paste, an excellent balance of heat with sweet.  With this classic sauce as a base, we've incorporated traditional Thai veggies like morning glory greens, sliced coconut shoots, and banana flowers, all common, indigenous ingredients in true Thai cooking.   The curry is joined by a side of red Gaba rice - Gaba rice has been allowed to sprout for 36-48 hours prior to cooking, which ups the nutritional ante in the rice, especially the amino acid profile; subsequently, even without meat, this dish boasts 10 grams of protein.

In Thai, Sai Tung means "take out", which makes Trader Joe's Sai Tung Green Curry & Red Gaba Rice a take out meal. (Technically, we suppose, all of our food is "take out", since you "take it out" of the store before you enjoy it.)  We think it's more traditional than most of what you'll find in Thai take-out places, and you certainly won't beat our value.  You can take a 12.6 ounce package of Sai Tung Green Curry & Red Gaba Rice out of your neighborhood Trader Joe's for a mere $2.99.  You'll find it in our freezers.
