Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese

February 3rd—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Our first reaction upon tasting Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese?  We were "not expecting it to be so creamy."  And yes, the quotes are genuine. We really did say that.  And then we went on to say how cheesy it was (in a good way), and how tender (not mushy) the pasta was, and then we rattled on a bit more about how incredibly creamy the whole concoction was.  And then we stopped talking and went about the task (really more of a pleasure) of eating.

Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese is made for us by a supplier who specializes in all kinds of pasta.  For this Reduced Guilt version of our regular frozen Mac & Cheese, they've used aged reduced fat Wisconsin Cheddar cheese, low fat milk and traditional elbow macaroni made with semolina flour.  It's really good. And super creamy.  Like Mac & Cheese should be.

The most amazing thing about this Reduced Guilt Mac & Cheese is the whole "reduced guilt" thing.  It has 65% less fat and 25% fewer calories than our traditional version.  But if we didn't point that out to you, we don't think you'd peg this as a "diet" or even "virtuous" product. It's just good.  The fact that it has only 270 calories per serving (and that's the whole package) simply makes it that much better.  And our price of $1.99 for each seven ounce package makes it even better.  You'll find it in our freezers.
