English Toffee with Nuts

January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Toffee is about as English as fish & chips, Gilbert & Sullivan and the Queen. But our exclusive toffee offering, just in time for the holidays, has Trader Joe's written all over it -- and we mean that figuratively, as well as literally.

An artisan confectioner who specializes in toffee has crafted Trader Joe's English Toffee with Nuts exclusively for us.  The crunchy, buttery toffee is made the old-fashioned way, slow-cooked in traditional confectioners' kettles over an open flame.  As it cooks, pieces of almonds and cashews are stirred into the toffee, adding an extra bit of crunch.  It would be good just like that.  We weren't good with good.  We wanted great.  So we asked our supplier to go the extra mile and enrobe each piece with a milk chocolate coating and dust the chocolate with chopped nuts.  And just like that, our English Toffee with Nuts went from good to great.

We decided that this great English Toffee deserved a grand, somewhat royal presentation, so we're selling it in a big, 30 ounce can.  The canister's design is as English as its contents, yet its old-fashioned price of $8.99 is one you'll find only at your neighborhood Trader Joe's.
