Handmade Tamales

January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Nothing says "Happy Holidays!" like tamales.  (Oh how we love culinary traditons that revolve around food.)  We can't think of a better way to say "Tamales for the Holidays" than Trader Joe's Handmade Tamales.  We have three varieties of Tamales that are handmade just for us in Mexico by a company that specializes in creative, top-quality Mexican foods.  Because they're done by hand, they really do look and taste like homemade.  The corn masa is moist and light like abuelita would make, not dry and grainy like some mass-produced tamales.  And the fillings? Oh, they're good.  We have Chicken & Green Chile, Pork & Red Sauce, and Vegetarian with Cheese and Green Salsa (this one has sweet corn, zucchini, and red bell peppers).  Each Handmade Tamale is wrapped in the traditional cornhusk wrapper and is fully cooked.  You can heat them in the microwave, but for the most authentic experience, we recommend steaming them on the stovetop -- it doesn't take long, and it's worth it!

We're selling each 30 ounce package of 10 Trader José's Handmade Tamales for the fantástico price of $10.99 for Chicken and Pork, and $9.99 for Vegetarian.  We only have them during the holiday season, and they tend to sell quickly.  We've heard stories of fans stocking up and freezing the Tamales, keeping the holiday spirit alive well into the New Year.  So if you're a tamale fan, we say ¡andalé!
