Grass Fed Angus Rib Roast

Nothing says celebration like roast beef with all the trimmings on your holiday table.  And a rib roast -- sometimes called a "standing rib roast" because it is often roasted upright -- makes an especially impressive presentation when it's time for the feast.  That roast will be even more impressive when it's a Grass Fed Angus Rib Roast from Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's Grass Fed Angus Rib Roast comes from cattle raised without the use of artificial growth hormones, on the vast, lush pasturelands of New Zealand.  The cattle are 100% grass fed, grazing on wide-open pastures -- their diet of natural greens contributes to richly flavored, well-marbled beef.  Raising cattle this way is more expensive than conventional methods, so grass fed meat tends to be more costly than conventionally raised beef.  At Trader Joe's, though, our Grass Fed Angus Rib Roast represents an astonishingly good value, at $7.99 a pound.  You'll find it in our freezers.

Our Grass Fed Angus Rib Roast, like all grass fed beef, is lower in saturated fat than conventionally raised meat.  It's also higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamins A & E.  Grass fed meat tends to cook a bit more quickly, too, so we recommend decreasing your cooking time by about 20%.  For a  medium-rare roast, remove from the oven when the internal temperature reaches about 120º, cover loosely with foil and allow to rest for 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 130º.
