Habanero Hot Sauce

August 22, 2011 - Fearlessly Archived - Still a fun read, price & availability may have changed.

If you're looking for a truly "hot" hot sauce, Trader Joe's Habanero Hot Sauce is where you'll find your bliss.  The habanero is one of the world's hottest peppers, slow-growing and finicky about its environment.  You see, habaneros don't like cold or rain (leave it to a hot pepper to dislike cold), so they grow well in very hot, arid areas, areas like South Africa's Western Cape, the source of the habaneros in this sauce.

Some have called our Habanero Hot Sauce scalding.  We've heard the word incendiary.  Those things are true. But it's not just hot.  There's a touch of sweetness and a little tang, too, giving it good balance.  We've given it a good price, too.  We're selling each 4.2 fluid ounce bottle for $2.99, every day.  Even the price is hot!

WARNING: The scolville scale is used to measure the heat of peppers. Bell peppers = 0. Habaneros = 100,000+... That's HOT! In fact, regulatory agencies would classify this sauce as SCORCHING... if they did such things.
