Blue Stilton

January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

Just thinking about Stilton at this time of year brings to mind Dickens' A Christmas Carol.  Not that Stilton is a miser, or that its ever been visited during the night by menacing spirits.  It must be the inherent British-ness of both the classic cheese and the classic novel.  Trader Joe's Blue Stilton is made for us by a premier Stilton cheesemaker in the district of Nottinghamshire, one of the three English counties in which Stilton production is allowed.

Our Blue Stilton is everything you dream about in Stilton -- we dream of Stilton, don't you?  It's richly-veined, smooth and creamy, and unlike many blues, Blue Stilton has a surprisingly mellow flavor.  It's at home on a cheese tray for your festive fête, and also makes a striking addition to everyday meal ideas like pizzas, salads, burgers, or atop a steak.  Its traditional partner is port, and we've discovered that it pairs surprisingly well with crisp white wines, as well.

Dickensian England may be a thing of the past, but we think even cranky old Ebenezer would have enjoyed Trader Joe's Blue Stilton -- he definitely would have approved of our price of $10.99 a pound.
