Spicy Pickled Vegetables
Pickled things are surging in food culture. We’ve seen evidence of this in the popularity of our Sauerkraut with Pickled Persian Cucumbers. Now, we’re adding to our pickled deli items with Trader Joe’s Spicy Pickled Vegetables. It’s our own version of Jalapeños en Escabeche... with a twist.
Jalapeños en Escabeche is traditionally a mix of pickled peppers, carrots, and onions. We’ve given this Mexican condiment a twist, adding jicama (upping the crunch factor), and cauliflower (upping the cool factor) to the jalapeños, carrots and onions. We also decided to pickle these vegetables fresh, instead of cooking them in oil first—another twist we could not resist.
Our Northern California supplier packs our Pickled Vegetables in mild brine made of water, vinegar, garlic, coconut palm sugar, sea salt, oregano, black peppercorns, and bay leaves. This produces delightfully crunchy produce, full of briny flavor.
The veggies are slightly Spicy—but not hot—which makes them perfect for topping just about anything... tacos, sandwiches, burgers, dogs, grilled meats, and salads. They add verve to your antipasto platter. They also make a tasty snack on their own, or paired with an ice-cold Trader José’s Premium Lager.
