Organic Black Bean Rotini

April 01, 2016 in Category: What's New

Here’s pasta with a twist. Actually, two twists. When you think pasta, you very likely think of semolina flour—or at the very least, wheat flour. If you’re a gluten free eater, your thoughts may go to rice or quinoa or corn.

So it’s safe to say, if you’re thinking pasta, you’re thinking grain. It’s also safe to say that in creating Trader Joe’s Organic Black Bean Rotini, we went against the grain. This is pasta made with 100% black beans. No grains; just beans.

The beans are dried and ground into a flour-like consistency, combined with water, and formed into Rotini. (That’s the second twist—the actual shape of the pasta.) It’s great tasting pasta with terrifically toothy texture. It eats like pasta, with a definite black bean flavor profile. Follow the package directions for the best cooking time to achieve this al dente experience.

Unlike traditional pasta, this Organic Black Bean Rotini delivers 14 grams of protein and 15 grams of fiber in every serving. Hey, that’s a third twist! Serve this non-traditional pasta with our Traditional Marinara. Or create a twist of your own, when you sprinkle your freshly cooked Black Bean Rotini with TJ’s Fancy Shredded Lite Mexican Cheese Blend, and a couple spoonfuls of Hatch Chile Salsa.

Each 12 ounce bag of Trader Joe’s Organic Black Bean Rotini is $2.99. Find it on the shelves next to our wide selection of grain-based noodles.
