Irish Bangers

March 03, 2017 in Category: What's New

When St. Patrick’s Day rolls around each year, we all pull out our green Hawaiian shirts and celebrate with the holiday’s traditional foods: corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, Irish soda bread, shepherd’s pie, stouts... And sausage. This staple of Irish cuisine is a must around March 17th, and Trader Joe’s Irish Bangers are perfect for the job.

Though Irish Bangers aren’t actually called “bangers” by the Irish, the rest of the world has adopted this moniker. No matter the word you use, these are true, classic, Irish-style sausages. They’re all-natural (minimally processed; no artificial ingredients), and the pork used was raised with no antibiotics or hormones—ever.

Our Bangers also contain 5% rusk—and this is the important ingredient. Rusk is a dry, twice-baked biscuit that is added to the pork to give it the traditional texture and flavor of an Irish sausage; white pepper, mace, ginger, sage, and a small amount of salt complete these Bangers.

Just add the mash to these Bangers and you’ll be ready for a St. Paddy’s Day feast. Our Frozen Mashed Potatoes takes care of that part. Or, cook up a classic Irish breakfast with fried eggs, Organic Baked Beans, Bacon Ends and Pieces, and a grilled tomato. A perfectly poured pint of Guinness—with either meal—will finish off the Irish experience.

We’re selling each 16-ounce package of six Trader Joe’s Irish Bangers for $4.49, and they’re only around for the season of St. Patrick. You’ll find them not at the end of a rainbow but instead in our fresh meat case.
