Hygge You Think You Are?

February 06, 2017 in Category: Guides

While there’s no direct translation, the Danish word hygge (say “HOO-guh”) can be loosely described as an atmosphere of coziness, contentment and kinship, or an appreciation of those things in everyday life. It's a concept we've been cuddling up to lately, thanks to recent blog posts espousing the benefits of adopting this Nordic-inspired philosophy. Activities interpreted as hyggely include (but are not limited to) snuggling up on the couch with a book, going for a brisk walk with a friend on a chilly day, or our personal favorite: sharing a home-cooked meal with loved ones. Its broad definition means you’re free to interpret as you see fit, and engage in elements of hygge and daily activities that are meaningful to you

If you're in pursuit of hygge, the intent is what’s truly important—and appreciation of its simplicity is key. Our suggestion? Grab a friend and head to Trader Joe’s. Strike up a conversation with one of our congenial Crew Members, and grab your favorite foodstuffs while you’re at it. Then head home, light a candle and cozy up to one (or all) of these comforting, uncomplicated recipes that will fill your kitchen, bellies and hearts with warmth and nourishment. Fuzzy slippers are optional, but encouraged!
