Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets

December 09, 2016 in Category: What's New

Black Eyed Peas, Cream, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, The Cranberries… all top-notch bands named after top-notch foods. Such successes have inspired us to turn one of our new products into its own rock band. Ladies and gentlemen… Trader Joe’s presents: The Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets!

We discovered these tasty little Nuggets in a Japanese airport and instantly fell in love. They’re made in Japan from the same glutinous rice as mochi, a chewy rice paste. Steamed rice is mechanically kneaded until turned into a silky smooth paste, which is then stretched into long ropes, cut into pieces, and dried.

The small squares are fried, which puffs them up. Then, they are tossed in sea salt. The resulting Nuggets are savory and addictive, and sure to be the rock stars of the snack aisle.

Super crunchy snack superstars deserve celebrity treatment. Here, that looks a lot like eating. Straight out of the bag is the simplest, most straightforward way to go. You can also mix them with Honey Sesame Cashews for a D.I.Y. trek mix of sorts, or enjoy them alongside Wasabi Seaweed Snacks. If you feel like turning up the mochi, you can always alternate between bites of these Mochi Rice Nuggets and Trader Joe's Mochi Ice Cream (Green Tea, Chocolate, or Strawberry flavors).

For $2.99, you can dig (into) a 6.35 ounce bag of Trader Joe’s Crispy Crunchy Mochi Rice Nuggets. That's a rockin' value for the hottest new snack act. And you can say you knew them, when!
