Calamansi Cooler

September 13, 2017 in Category: What's New

The Calamansi fruit is a natural cross of mandarin oranges and kumquats, native to Southeast Asia. On its own, the fruit is slightly sweet, and also sour—think of the zing of a sour orange, or a surprisingly sweet lime, and you’re on the right track. The fruit is incredibly popular in the Philippines, where it’s added to drinks, hot sauces, fish dishes…even beauty products. Our Product Developer felt this fruit deserved a stateside starring role in our stores, so they created the newest addition to our beverage lineup: Trader Joe’s Calamansi Cooler.

Calamansi Cooler evokes the refreshing flavors of limeade, but with a tangy, floral twist. To make this breezy beverage, our supplier in the Philippines mixes Calamansi purée with water, along with a bit of sugar to moderate the purée’s sour pucker. It’s packed into single-serve cans that are the ideal size for lunch boxes, picnics, hiking, BBQs…you can enjoy it while relaxing on the beach, or in the car on a cross-country road trip, or a concert in the park… come to think of it, there’s really no occasion that couldn’t be made better with this refreshing drink.

To best enjoy this not-from-concentrate, kosher Cooler, refrigerate or chill the cans on ice prior to serving. For a tropical twist on an Arnold Palmer, mix it with our Unsweetened Kettle Brewed Black Tea. Or, pour it into ice pop molds and freeze to beat the heat.

We’re offering four – 8.45-ounce cans of Trader Joe’s Calamansi Cooler for the WOW price of $2.99, everyday. You’ll find them near our other shelf-stable beverages.
