Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli

Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli

November 4, 2016—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.

What we call ravioli dates back to sometime in the 14th century, in the region now identified as Italy. Deeper culinary exploration reveals that every food culture has its own variation on the dumpling, and some are traceable as far back as the 10th century. Cut to the 21st century, and the continued evolution of the dumpling continues with Trader Joe’s Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli

The filling is a harmonious medley of pumpkin perfection – sweet pumpkin is slathered with honey and a bit of brown sugar and molasses, then roasted, pureed, and blended with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses.  This sweet-savory mixture is stuffed into colorful squares of pasta – one side is orange-red like a pumpkin shell, the other side a more muted orange, like the pumpkin’s flesh. Just chewy enough on the outside, smooth & rich on the inside, Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli are flavorful enough that they need very little saucy embellishment. If you feel you must add, you might adorn them with our Autumnal Harvest Pasta Sauce. We also like them with just a bit of butter (melted and browned a bit, if you have the inclination) or extra virgin olive oil. For an extra-rich and extra-pumpkin-y result, top them with a quick sauce made from Pumpkin Butter and cream. It’s a wow-wow-wow.

We’re selling each nine ounce package for $3.49, the same price they’ve been since we introduced them back in aught-12. You’ll find them in our refrigerated case.
