Job Description
Our part time Crew Members are well trained, knowledgeable, friendly and fundamental to our success. We encourage our Crew to taste and learn about our products and share that information with our customers. Each Crew Member participates in all aspects of store operations; we don’t pigeonhole. You won’t find only boring bag boy, stock boy or cashier positions at Trader Joe’s! At any given time our Crew can be found running a cash register, bagging groceries, restocking shelves, carrying out merchandise for customers and collecting shopping carts. Crew Members also receive, unload and verify merchandise deliveries and build creative and exciting merchandise displays… but most importantly, our Crew is responsible for making sure that our Customers have a truly terrific shopping adventure! We encourage laughter and fun at work ­ and we offer flexible schedules ­ perfect for students, retirees, stay-at-home-parents and anyone else who’s looking for something other than 9 to 5!

Qualifications
The ideal Crew Member works with a sense of urgency, loves food, enjoys a physically active work environment and has a fun, positive personality. Crew Members should have the ability and desire to create a fun, warm and friendly shopping experience. High school graduate preferred and previous customer service or retail experience is a big plus.

Food Demonstrator
Job Description
Our Food Demonstrators are outgoing, friendly “foodies” who provide food, fun and information in our stores! Food Demonstrators generate excitement about our products and make our customers feel welcome in our stores. The Food Demonstrator is responsible for planning, preparing and sampling Trader Joe’s products. With lots of customer interaction, this is a great job for a real people person!

As a member of our part time Crew, Food Demonstrators also perform various store duties including operating a cash register, restocking shelves, collecting shopping carts and others as assigned.

Qualifications
The ideal Food Demonstrator has a passion for people, is gracious and outgoing and is a self-starter who’s organized and a team player. Store Sign Artist
Job Description
Our Store Sign Artists are talented, creative, quick-draw Picassos who prepare and create unique store signs that help us make our products and displays really stand out! The Store Sign Artist promotes the WOW! customer experience through the creation of unique, fun and informative signs. Store Sign Artists are responsible for a large volume of art, but most importantly, our Store Sign Artists are responsible for making sure that our Customers have a truly terrific shopping adventure!

As a member of our part time Crew, Store Sign Artists also perform various store duties including operating a cash register, restocking shelves, collecting shopping carts and others as assigned.

Qualifications
The ideal Store Sign Artist has exceptional talent, a strong attention to detail, thrives under pressure and works with a sense of urgency. Sign Artists must have the ability to meet deadlines to accommodate store needs and should love to draw (chalkboards a plus). Good lettering skills are a must and familiarity with Trader Joe’s products is desired. No professional art training or experience required. In fact, many of our best artists don’t come from the art world at all! High school graduate preferred.

Store Leadership
Job Description
At Trader Joe’s, our entry-level store leaders are called "Novitiates." If you’re looking for a full time career, this is your first step on the career path towards store management. A Novitiate is a supervisor-in-training who is learning to perform a variety of store duties. Novitiates are responsible for building creative in-store displays, learning about our products, providing an exceptional customer experience, setting a positive example for the Crew, running a register and training new part time Crew Members. Hours vary from early mornings to late evenings' and you can bet that weekends and holidays are part of the deal.

For those candidates who have more significant retail experience, as well as mobility to several states, we also have a specialized fast-track Novitiate training position, known as RMT.

Qualifications
The ideal Novitiate is highly motivated, enjoys a physically active and exciting work environment and has a passion for food and customer service. The role of a Novitiate is a demanding one, and two or more years of customer service experience (retail, grocery, hospitality, etc.) as well as previous supervisory experience will definitely come in handy. Upbeat, outgoing personalities blossom in this flexible environment - and a good sense of humor never hurts! High school graduate or equivalent required; some college preferred.

Regional Mobile Thriver (RMT)
Job Description
The Regional Mobile Thriver (RMT) program is a fast-track corporate-sponsored training program designed to recruit mobile, experienced candidates with significant leadership and customer service experience to join the company as Novitiates. RMTs train in three or four local stores over 12 to 18 months. This training, guided by a “Training Team” of local store Captains, is designed to prepare and RMT for relocation into available Second Mate (assistant manager) positions in our new and expanding markets. The RMT program is not for everyone, and only the most experienced and mobile candidates will qualify.

The ideal RMT candidate has:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of retail, restaurant or other related experience
  • 3+ years of significant supervisory experience (particularly in a retail environment)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and motivate others
  • History of promotions and increased responsibilities with previous employers
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations
  • Ability to assess and develop talent
  • Willingness to relocate to several states and markets
  • Passion for Trader Joe’s
