February 6, 2012 - Fearlessly Archived - Still a fun read, price & availability may have changed.
Grifone Primitivo is currently only available in our stores where wine is sold.*
There's Zinfandel, and then there's Primitivo. Actually, that's kind of misleading, since Zinfandel and Primitivo are, genetically speaking, the same grape. That's right, not merely kissing cousins, these two grapes (along with a third that's found mostly in Croatia) are identical twins, and you know what that means. That's right, if this were a crime thriller, or an episode of any one of the myriad Law & Orders, they could frame each other for murder. But since this is a Fearless Flyer, we'll stick to talk of wine.
Grifone Primitivo comes to us from Italy, Zinfandel's ancestral home. Grapes from vineyards in the Manduria region (geographically, in the boot's heel) are handpicked at their peak and crafted into a deep, inky red wine with concentrated aromas of red berries and licorice. Not quite as spicy as American Zinfandels, this Primitivo is full-bodied, warm & fruity, with strong, lingering tannins. It's a wine that’s meant to be enjoyed now—we suggest enjoying it with rich cheeses like our Aged Raw Milk Cheddar.
We're selling each bottle of Grifone Primitivo for $3.99*, a terrific value, while it lasts.
*Grifone Primitivo is $4.49 in OR, WA, VA & GA; $4.99 in NM, KY; and $5.49 in OH. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
