Once in a while, we introduce a product that truly captures the world's attention. Years ago it was our Mandarin Orange Chicken (still one of our most popular products). More recently it was Cookie Butter (a huge hit in all of its incarnations). And then there's Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, a product that was so sought-after that for the first year we carried it, it was more often than not not on our shelves - we simply couldn't get enough to keep up with demand.
So what makes it so special? Well, to make our Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, our supplier starts with freshly harvested coconuts that are de-husked and grated. The meat of the coconut is dried to remove the water, and then it's cold pressed and filtered to remove any remaining pieces of the fruit. That's the process. Nothing more. Producing the oil in this way, we are able to retain the nutrients, flavor characteristics and aromas of fresh coconuts.
Use Organic Virgin Coconut Oil in cooking - it stands up to relatively high heat and imparts a distinctive flavor - in salad dressings, for baking, and even as a moisturizer for dry skin. It's true! It will fluctuate from a liquid to a solid state, depending on the temperature at which it's stored, so don't be surprised when the solid-looking oil you bought in the store turns into a liquid when the jar's been stored in a warmer pantry.
