April 28th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
Barbados, easternmost of the Caribbean islands, is famous for its rich history, tropical climate, beautiful beaches, and rum. Rum was born in Barbados, and has been distilled on the island for more than 300 years. So when we were looking for a source for our very own rum, we of course went to Barbados. (This is figurative, of course; this Fearless Flyer writer did not travel to the Caribbean to look for rum, though this Fearless Flyer writer would, of course, take up this task if asked.)
The result of our search is Trader Joe's Rum of the Gods, and like anything worthy of the gods, it has an interesting story to tell. While the rum is distilled from pure cane sugar in Barbados, it is actually bottled for us in Wisconsin by one of our brewery partners, who has a great relationship with a Barbadian distillery. We discovered that if the rum were shipped to the U.S. in tanks, then bottled stateside, our cost would plummet, enabling us to offer Rum of the Gods for a mere $6.99* for a 750ml bottle. And so we did.
Rum of the Gods is a true Barbados gold rum, with round flavors of caramel, toffee, and vanilla that dance around your mouth and tingle your taste buds. A touch of citrus at the finish makes this an easy-drinking Rum whether enjoyed on its own or in a favorite cocktail. Our price of $6.99* might just make you start to sing… Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
*Trader Joe's Rum of the Gods is currently available where we are able to sell sprits. It is $7.99 unless otherwise noted here: CA, AZ: $6.99; NM, IL, NJ: $8.99. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
