January 8th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
A decade ago, it was almost unheard of to see vintages on beer. It's still unusual. For beer aficionados, Trader Joe's Vintage Ale has become a tradition. They know that it's the vintage that makes our Vintage Ale so special, because each year, this beer is developed, crafted, brewed and bottled for us in limited quantities, just in time for the holiday season.
The 2013 Vintage Ale has an amber-mahogany hue, abundant with coffee & cream colored foam. The ample aromas are of cocoa and malt, with added notes of lemon and ginger. A single sip leads to the true discovery -- mildly sweet and malty flavors, with a captivating suggestion of cocoa, citrus and spice. It’s ready to enjoy right away, chilled but not ice cold. We recommend you forego the beer glass in favor of a wide-rimmed goblet -- a glass like this will really showcase the flavor and striking color of the brew.
An added bonus, and one of the features that separates our Vintage Ale from the usual brew, it will age well for a few years, its flavors becoming more complex and interesting as time goes by. We've heard from many beer fans who keep some from year to year, then compare the current year's brew to previous vintages. Our price of $4.99 for each 750 ml bottle makes this a vintage to savor.
Vintage Ale is currently available in Trader Joe's stores where beer is sold (Not available in OR, TX, ME, CT or UT) . It is $4.99 unless otherwise noted: LA, KY, NH, FL: $5.99. Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)
