October 7th—Fearlessly Archived—Still a fun read; price & availability may have changed.
In honor of Pumpkin Season, we've found carrots that look like -- you guessed it -- little pumpkins. Okay, so we didn't find them just to honor Pumpkin Season, but it is a delicious coincidence that we had to celebrate nonetheless. Trader Joe's Parisian Carrots are also known as Parisian Heirloom Carrots, or, more commonly, Tonda di Parigi (a truly international phenomenon – carrots from France, with an Italian moniker, sold at Trader Joe's in the U.S.). They're small, about the size of the average radish, and round, and at first glance, you may just think you're looking at a teeny pumpkin.
Make no mistake, though, these are actual carrots, grown from heirloom seeds in France and Belgium. In addition to being an engaging conversation piece, they're exceptionally easy to prepare, and as sweet as any carrots you've ever tasted. Roast them with beef or poultry, or sauté them in olive oil and a bit of garlic and serve as a side. We're sure you'll love these carrots -- slice one open and you'll see they have a heart-shaped center. We think that's proof of their inherent lovability. Their price also makes them easy to love. We're selling each 16 ounce bag of Parisian Carrots for $1.69, every day. You'll find them in our freezer case.
