Talk about a powerhouse! Trader Joe's Chia Seeds, from the plant scientifically known as salvia hispanica, pack a powerful nutritional punch into a very small serving. In a single tablespoon, you get six grams of fiber, three grams of protein and 2.9 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids. Chia is often considered the richest plant-based source of dietary fiber, protein, antioxidants and Omega-3’s. Power. House.
So what do you do with Trader Joe's Chia Seeds? Add them to yogurt, smoothies, salads, and baked goods. We know folks who just add a tablespoon to a glass of water, stir, and drink. The Chia Seeds are virtually flavorless, and if you let it sit for a few minutes it will start to thicken a bit. Speaking of thickening, you can make a no-cook Chia Seed Pudding by combining ¼ cup of Chia Seeds with a cup of coconut milk, ¼ cup (or less!) of honey or agave syrup, and flavors of your choice — like vanilla, cocoa powder, pureed fruit, or citrus juices. Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours and you'll have all the goodness of Chia Seeds in a sweet & delicious pudding — no heating necessary.
