Genova Pesto

In modern cuisine, "pesto" is often used to describe any number of ingredients finely chopped and blended together into a sauce or paste. Traditionally, though, pesto is a combination of fresh basil, nuts, garlic, Parmesan cheese and oil. For our Genova Pesto, a perennial favorite at Trader Joe's, we've stayed close to this tradition, close to what pesto might have been when it was first made in Genoa, Italy and darn close to pesto perfecto, if we may be so immodest.

Trader Giotto's Genova Pesto is, of course, terrific on pasta - we like it with cuts like penne and fusilli that will really hold onto the sauce. We think it really shines, though, on pizzas, in place of a tomato-based sauce. Try topping the pesto with Grilled Chicken Strips and Crumbled Blue Cheese for a topsy-turvy take on tradition. And it's a terrific topping for bruschetta, as well. Traditional, versatile and bursting with flavor - that's a winner by any reckoning. Genova Pesto is in our refrigerated fresh case.
