Hey, Joe!

March 20, 2017 in Category: Product Stories

The Cold Brew process has cemented its status as pinnacle percolator of coffee bar culture. What separates the wheat from the chaff—or the coffee cherry from the bean, as it were? As its name puts forth, Cold Brew Coffee is never heated. As a result, the oils and acids that are commonly released with heat don’t pass through to the brew. To quantify it, a cup of Cold Brew Coffee contains about...

Mudd Pie

February 10, 2017 in Category: What's New

When one of our Product Innovators announced that she and one of our most trusted dessert suppliers were joining forces to develop a TJ’s version of Mississippi mud pie, we couldn’t have been more thrilled. Any excuse to consume that much chocolate-y goodness is fine by us—and consume, we did. And when we finally settled on a version worthy of our name, Trader Joe’s Mudd Pie was born. (We added the second ‘d’ for funsies… and to make sure nobody thinks this thing is made out of actual mud. Because that would be gross. And this pie is delicious.) Mississippi mud pie came about sometime during...

Fair Trade Malawi Coffee

October 06, 2016 in Category: What's New

The beans in our bags of Fair Trade Malawi Lot Coffee come from family-owned farms in the Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union in northern Malawi. (Malawi’s a thin land-locked country in southeastern Africa, surrounded by Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia.) The subtropical climate and rich clay minerals produce coffee beans with soft, floral tones and notes of caramelized tangerine zest, spice and chocolate. Slow maturation at an elevation of over 6,500 feet lends a unique flavor profile to these beans, giving them a creamier body with less acidity than other coffees from neighboring countries. These beans are considered...

Coffee Mochi

September 05, 2016 in Category: What's New

As any Crew Member can tell you, our customers love mochi ice cream, which is often referred to in freezer-aisle conversation as just mochi [say: “MOE-chee”]. We’ve long carried the stuff in Green Tea, Strawberry, Mango, and Chocolate flavors, and in 2014, we introduced our now-beloved, seasonal Pumpkin Pie Mochi Ice Cream. But something was missing. What about mochi for the non-dairy crowd? What about creating a delicious frozen dessert that everyone can enjoy? We answered our own question(s) this year by creating...

Wake up! It’s that time again—that time when we offer a new, limited edition coffee at an unbeatable price. (Actually, “that time” can be just about any time at Trader Joe’s, because offering great products at great prices is a season-less, year-round endeavor, after all!) Now is the time for Trader Joe’s Tanzania Small Lot Coffee. Take your taste buds on a journey throughout Tanzania’s Southern Highlands, home of the finest coffee farms in this small African nation, which is located south of Kenya and north of Mozambique. These beans hail from southwest Tanzania’s Mbeya [say: “mm-BAY-ah”] region, where the landscape varies from...

Organic French Roast Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate

May 06, 2016 in Category: What's New

When we first introduced our TJ’s Cold Brew Concentrate in 2013, we knew it was going to be a hit, but how big of a hit... well, even we weren’t fully prepared. Since then, the bottled cold brew and cold brew concentrate trend has all but exploded, and ours is the best value on the market—by a long shot. So, we approached our supplier about introducing a second variety of Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate this year—this time an organic offering—and we were thrilled when they agreed. Like it’s predecessor...

Coffee Bean Blast Ice Cream

April 17, 2016 in Category: Radio Spots

Ice cream is sold by volume, not weight, and some ice creams weigh more than others. Why the weight difference? Ice cream of lower quality has high overrun. That’s the amount of air whipped into the ice cream. High overrun equals lots of air. And lots of air equals lighter quarts. In the world of ice cream, all quarts are not created equal. At Trader Joe’s, our quarts really deliver.

Joe Medium Roast and Joe's Dark Ground Coffees

April 08, 2016 in Category: What's New

The simple act of brewing a cup of morning coffee can provide a moment of culinary Zen—a quiet and creative start to one’s day, before the flurry of mundane and required tasks kick in. But for those in a rush, this kind of ceremonial coffee prep at daybreak is pure fantasy. While Trader Joe’s may not be able to guarantee daily moments of peaceful meditation around the coffee pot, we are doing our part to...
