Mushroom Mochi Potsticker Dumplings

Inspired by a tiny ramen shop we know in Tokyo, we present Trader Joe’s Mushroom Mochi Potsticker Dumplings. This unique version of the Chinese dumpling is made of Mochi (a Japanese rice cake) instead of the more traditional flour-water wrapper.

We roll the rice-dough into thin circles, and fill each one with Wood Ear and Shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bamboo shoots, and oyster sauce. Eschewing half-moons, we form ours into little balls—slightly smaller than golf-size. In short, it’s a tender and savory filling, enrobed in a delightfully chewy, round wrapper. Mochi is a traditional Japanese New Year food, while Potstickers are a common Chinese New Year treat.
