Espresso Mélange Cheddar Cheese

April 06, 2017 in Category: What's New

The word mélange comes from the French word for “mix.” When it comes to Trader Joe’s Espresso Mélange Cheddar Cheese, we could have used any number of words to convey a similar meaning: medley, assortment, hodgepodge, mixture. But only mélange felt worthy of this stellar Cheese.

While this is a Cheddar cheese, it’s not simply a Cheddar cheese, strictly speaking. It’s made with a Cheddar base, but then our supplier incorporates both Cheddar and Gruyere cheese cultures. This mélange gives the cheese finishing flavors reminiscent of Gruyere—and a creaminess not typically found in Cheddars.

On top of this enticing blend, espresso coffee grounds have been added to the cheese. They create a visible marbling and a punch of strong coffee flavor, which all makes for one truly unique Cheddar Cheese.

We think the full flavors of our Espresso Mélange shine best when experienced sliced on a cheese plate with Water Crackers. Pair with a mild cream ale, a silky porter, or a glass of Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Merlot.

We’re selling random-weight pieces of Trader Joe’s Espresso Mélange Cheddar Cheese for $9.99 per pound, for a limited time.
